As we move into the New Year, the Center for Political Education collective is excited about what’s on the plate for 2009. We look forward to seeing many of you at various events, classes and discussions this year.
The first and most exciting news is that there is a future CPE collective member on the way…Congratulations Michelle and Fernando! While we continue our work this year, we want to let you know that things will likely slow down a bit from February through May while our coordinator, Michelle Foy, will be on maternity leave. You can continue to communicate with the collective and send ideas about events, classes and discussions you’d like to see through our e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org
We appreciate your patience in the next few months.
Some of the classes, series and events that we look forward to in 2009 include:
Continuing our series on ecological crises, the left and racial and economic justice organizing—with our sister organization, Movement Generation. These events focus on realities and root causes of ecological crises, the disproportionate impacts on the people of the global south, the working class and communities of color in the U.S. and the opportunities presented for social movements to respond and organize.
Third Thursdays with CPE—monthly discussions about current topics and urgent events from a left perspective. Mark your calendars for every Third Thursday in 2009 and check for periodic e-mail updates or our website for the latest about each month’s topic!
Upcoming events in early 2009 including…Coalition-building: learning from past movements for today’s movements (save the date, March 18th); From South Africa to Palestine: anti-apartheid movements then and now; District elections and people power: building a progressive agenda in San Francisco; and much, much more…
Thank you for coming through to CPE events, supporting the work, and continuing to be a part of a movement for revolutionary change!
